Today we’re going to give a brief overview of the most common foot complaints, should you suffer from any of these common issues don’t hesitate to give us a call.

1. Heel Pain

Heel pain is also known as Plantar Fasciitis. Your Plantar Fascia is a thick fibrous band of connective tissue originating on the bottom surface of the heel bone and extending along the sole of the foot towards the toes. Tears or inflammation of the Plantar Fascia is often a result of poor foot biomechanics and will cause pain in the heel or arch of the foot.

Treatment

Treatment can include Shockwave Therapy, Low Level Laser Therapy, Foot Mobilisation, Dry Needling, Exercises and Custom Made Orthotics.

2. Children’s Foot Pain

If your child is complaining of pain in their feet, ankles, legs or knees, they may also want to avoid sports or active play. Children’s foot pain should not be ignored and a Podiatrist should be consulted. In fact, it’s worth having an annual foot check-up since foot issues, when caught early, can prevent more serious issues later.

Treatment

Often the use of Orthotic insoles and Exercises.

3. Bunion Pain

Bunions are caused when the big toe pushes against the second toe and causes a bump in the joint. The condition can be hereditary, wearing tight or narrow shoes or the result of poor biomechanics.

Treatment

Foot Mobilisation, Exercises, Low Level Laser Therapy. Dry Needling and Custom Made Orthotics can help prevent and relieve bunions.

4. Ingrown Toe Nails

The sharp pain of an ingrown toenail can be unbearable. Most commonly in the big toe, an ingrown toenail is caused by the border of the nail irritating the soft tissue around the nail causing inflammation and infection. There are a variety of causes from improper clipping, nail injury, ill-fitting shoes or the pressure caused by regular running.

Treatment

If you are suffering from a painful ingrown toe nail, you should not wait too long before consulting a Podiatrist who can help with removal or nail surgery.

5. Flat Feet

People afflicted with this condition do not have the arch in the middle of their foot. This means that the entire foot touches the ground and can cause pain that extends to the calf muscles, knees, lower back and hips.

Treatment

It is recommended that you come in for a consultation – this condition is treated through Custom-Made Orthotics and Exercises.
